She Moved from Connecticut to Texas and Built the Property She Always Wanted

There's something about LaRue, Texas that surprises people: the hills. Gently rolling and tree-lined, they're rare for this part of the state. For Deborah, who moved from Connecticut, they felt like a quiet nod from a familiar place.

She had traded one beautiful piece of land for another. And she already knew exactly what she wanted to build on it.

She Knew the Size Before She Made the Call

Back in Connecticut, Deborah had a dedicated quilting studio in her garage — a 14-by-32-foot space where she could work seriously on her craft. When she moved to Texas, that blueprint came with her. She knew the footprint. She just needed the right build.

Before finding Quality Storage Buildings, the family had already ordered a cabin from another manufacturer. It was there, but it wasn't the full picture. When they found us, the plan took shape: a 14×32 Dormer Cabin with a covered porch to serve as her studio, sitting right beside the existing cabin.

The challenge? Making the two buildings feel like one.

The Porch Became the Answer

Deborah and her son — a contractor who handled the interior finishing — looked at the open covered porch on the new cabin and saw a bigger opportunity. They enclosed it.

That porch became a bright, airy sunroom. And just like that, it became the bridge between the two cabins — a natural hallway connecting both structures without stepping outside. The whole property now feels like it was designed this way from day one.

It wasn't. That's what made it special.

A Garage That Matches, Wired and Ready

Right alongside the connected cabins, they placed a 14×32 Elite Portable Garage. Her son handled the full electrical package and converted the garage door to an electric opener. Deborah has one car — the rest works as storage, which on a Texas property is never a bad thing.

All three buildings are finished in the same cream-colored board and batten siding. The farmhouse look runs consistently across the whole property. Standing in front of it, you'd never guess it came together piece by piece.

A "Hobby" Studio That Looks Anything But

Deborah lives in the original cabin. The new 14×32 Dormer Cabin is where she creates.

Walk inside and the dormer windows flood the room with natural light from above. Hardwood floors. A butcher block island surrounded by organized storage on every side. A quilted piece in blue and gold on the wall.

Deborah calls it a hobby. You'd call it a professional studio.

Outside, a pond sits quietly on the land. Hills in the distance. Three matching structures lined up just right.

She says she wishes she'd found us sooner. We're glad she found us.
